Sanyo launches Xacti HD700 and Xacti HD1000 retro-styled camcorders

I love the Sanyo Xacti range - it has the looks of an old Super-8 camera, albeit miniaturised and with high-definition capabilities. And at the CES, two new models have been launched - the Xacti HD700 and Xacti HD1000.

Both can shoot high-definition video footage, the Xacti HD700 (pictured above) shooting in 720p resolution, with the HD1000 offering 1080i resolution. Both can take still shots too - 7.1 megapixel with the HD700 and 4 megapixel with the HD1000. Storage for both is via SD or SDHC memory card - expect up to 85 minutes HD footage on an 8GB card.

Other features include a 2.7-inch screen, various zoom options, auto-focus, image stabiliser (if your hand has a shake) and a pile of software for editing. The Xacti HD700 will come in silver, red and brown, retailing for around £300, with the HD1000 selling for nearer £400.
