Philippe Starck-designed Voxan super naked Xv motorbike

Starck_bike

Sometimes a picture is enough, which is just as well in this case, because information on the Philippe Starck-designed Voxan super naked Xv motorbike is very much at a premium.

Classed as a "cafe racer". French maker Voxan describes it as "raw power enhanced by the radical purity of the minimalism. The absolute essence of the motorcycle". Still no clearer? Me either. But if your sold on the looks, you'll probably be interested to know that it has a 1200cc engine, 140hp and weighs 180kg.

It should be on sale in the early part of this year - no details on price.

Greenapple all-glass desk

Greenapple

Taking minimalism to the extreme is this Greenapple all-glass desk.

A large working surface of 160 x 75 x 76cm, with plenty of storage for your computer kit and documents, as well as a raised platform for your monitor. The downside is that same selling point - where are you going to hide your clutter? Probably heavy too if you need to move it.

If you can live with that, you can buy it online for around £700. A version with black contrast shelves is also available.

Jennifer Newman Trolley

Aimed at designers and artists, the Trolley has plenty of purpose-built space for your paper, drawing rolls and portfolios, as well as a good surface space. but can double up for other uses too. It's also on casters - so you can move it around quickly and easily.

Made of powder-coated aluminium in a choice of colours, it's built to last. And just as well - as the price is £1,293.

Koziol Tasche Bag

Koziol Something of a design classic in Europe, the Koziol Tasche Bag is less common in the UK.

Designed by designer Alessandro Mendini with Christina Hamel, it's the plastic bag that can help the environment - if you keep using it instead of the disposable ones at the supermarket. It's heavy duty enough for most everyday items or if you don't want to use it outdoors, it also makes a decent magazine rack.

Available online, it retails for £16.50.

The Toaster Phone - talk with a piece of toast

Toasterphone

Plenty of novelty phones around, but none quite like the Toaster Phone.

Yes, a toaster in looks, but a phone in functionality. It's the work of Brazilian industrial design student Renata Quintela and a concept right now, offering pop-up handsets, charging via thew 'toaster' and all the buttons and keys you would expect on the 'toast'.

No news of this going into production as yet - but we'll take one if it does.

Nooka Zoo-V watch

Nooka_zoo I've always like the look of the Nooka watch range, but rather like the Tokyo Flash timepieces, they're almost impossible to read - or at least, require a great deal of thinking. Thankfully, that's not the case with the Nooka Zoo-V watch.

Yes, this is the Nooka you can use. Available with a choice of straps (black, white and mesh) and different shades of face, the Zoo-V offers up digital numbers, an indication of am or pm and a bar to show time passing.

Practical and stylish, but not all that cheap at £190.

Sony's latest iPod killer - the NW-A820 media player

Sony_bluetoothplayer

Advice to Sony - if you're attempting people to ditch the iPod, come up with a more catchy name than the NW-A820 series.

Brown Paper Bag - handbag made of cardboard

Brownpaperbag

Quite possibly the most expensive cardboard-based item you would ever own - the Brown Paper Bag by Giles Miller.

And just in case you are worried about the rain, it is treated to be water resistant.

Neuhaus Rain Of Stars - posh chocolates by big-name chefs

Neuhaus Sometimes a box of Milk Tray just isn't enough - if you want to make a real splash with chocolates, perhaps the Neuhaus Rain Of Stars is just the thing.

It's been created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famed chocolatier, with nine internationally-renowned chefs each creating a unique praline for the box - Raymond Blanc, Pierre Wynants, Marc Veyrat, Peter Goossens, Pedro Subijana, Tateru Yoshino, Jean-Claude Bourgueil, Daniel Boulud and Guy Savoy if you want the names.

In fact, the end product looks more like a work of art than something sweet to eat. But at £30 for just 18 chocolates, you can't afford to let a single one go to waste.

What we do know is that it has a powerful 8 cylinder 4.7 litre engine producing 450 HP and a 6-speed robotic gearbox. And of course, that it has that stunning exterior. Start saving now, the 500 will be available to buy later this year.

Bonaldo Flip plastic rocking chair

Fliprocking

Plastic furniture didn't disappear at some point in the mid-70s, it's still around if you look hard enough - and a great example is this Bonaldo Flip plastic rocking chair.

It does have something of that 70s vibe about it, but this Claudio Dondoli design should still fit into both a modern home and a modern garden. You see, that's the benefit of going plastic - you can kick back and rock away outside when the sun comes out, dragging it back in when the inevitable rain returns,

You can buy the Flip online in a range of colours, priced at £370.

Samsung launches U900 Soul phone and teams up with Bang & Olufsen for F400

Samsung_newphones

More mobile phones, this time from Samsung, which has launched a glut of handsets, most notably the U900 Soul and the F400, the latter in association with Bang & Olufsen.

The metallic U900 Soul (on the right) has 'magic touch' controls, which means it only shows suitable icons (music when you're in music mode etc), a 5 megapixel camera with features you would expect on a standalone camera (face detection and image stabiliser for example), high-speed web browsing, mobile blogging and a media player.

The Bang & Olufsen-driven F400 is two-way slider handset - one way to show the keypad, the other way showing the Bang & Olufsen speakers. Also on board is a 2.2-inch screen, 3G speeds, FM radio, media player and storage via a microSD card.

Both phones on their way in the coming weeks, prices to be confirmed.

21st century Cuckoo Clock by Osian Batyka Williams

Cuckoo

The traditional cuckoo clock is more kitsch than cool, so how about a more modern taken on an old design?

This is the 21st century Cuckoo Clock by Osian Batyka Williams, a stripped down version of the Swiss classic. Available with a digital or analogue clock, it is made of Forest Stewardship Council-certified plywood, with the birds shifting from inside the clock to the steel chains.

Cheap too (no pun intended) - £25 for the analogue or £30 for the digital (which also shows the day of the week).

iWave Cube - the world's first personal and portable microwave

Iwave_micro

Ever feel the need to warm up a slice of pizza or a ready meal on the move? You can with the iWave Cube.

Well, up to a point anyway. It has a carrying handle and measures around one cubic foot and weighs 12lbs, so not the worst thing to drag round with you (although that size does limit the size of food contained in it). And it has all the electronic controls you would expect from a decent model.

But it only works on mains, so you can carry it around - but you can only use it where there's a plug socket. Available in red, black and silver, the iWave Cube is only available in the US right now (as far as I can see), retailing for $130 (around £65).

Lobster Chair - the Egg Chair gets an update

Lobsterchair

Ok, this isn't an official update on the Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair, but the Lobster Chair certainly has its roots with that late 50s classic.

Lobster is probably down to its claw-like shape, but for me, the design isn't the most eye-catching aspect - that's the bent wood construction and its walnut veneer, matched with a quality leather, Pantera foam for comfort and the chrome-plated steel base. Other finishes are available, but none are quite as classy.

We know it is designed by Lund & Paarmann for Verikon Furniture, but as yet, we don't have a fixed price. More when we know it.
