Apple iPad gets official worldwide launch - on the shelves in weeks

It's been one of the most talked-about pieces of non-existent tech ever, but today the Apple iPad is reality - and it looks like it might have been worth the wait, killing off the humble netbook, not to mention the Amazon Kindle, almost instantly.

This super-slim device has both Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity plus a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen IPS LCD display (which you can use horizontally or vertically), with power from a custom 1GHz Apple 'A4' chip and a battery that offers up to 10 hours use per charge. In terms of storage, you'll get a choice of 16, 32 and 64GB models. That's the facts out of the way, now the fun bit.

At first glance it looks like something made in a shed, but the Muuto Wood Lamp by TAF architects (aka Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom) is actually a very stylish piece of lighting.

Ok, it does have that homemade look, but that just adds to the appeal for us. Described as a 'low-tech antidote to the usually very modern work desk lamps', the lamp is made of pine, with a green rubber cord adding a bit of contrast.

Pentax goes Dieter Rams with the Optio H90 digital camera

On our Retro To Go site yesterday, we featured the distinctly retro Pentax Optio I-10. In the comments related to that camera, another new launch was pointed out - the Pentax Optio H90 digital camera.

It's not quite as retro as the I-10, but it does look like it could have come straight out of the Dieter Rams design catalogue - the kind of stylish but functional design the great man was known for.
