Some time back, Polaroid teamed up with Lady Gaga to show off the prototype Polaroid GL30, a retro-style instant camera for the modern age. Fast forward to this week and the Polaroid Z340 camera is the product that's actually launched, looking rather like that original design.
At first glance, it looks like another Lego snapper, but this Pentax x Nanoblock Optio NB1000 digital camera is a slightly more high end number, as well as being a lot more fun.
It's a limited edition, sold only at Colette (and its online store), mixing a digital camera with 14-megapixel sensor, wide angle optical zoom, 3-inch LCD and HD video shooting with Japan's equivalent of the Lego brick, the Nanoblock.
The latter means you can build your own camera front, or simply play with the bricks separately from the camera. See over the page for how that works. Available now in white or green, it sells for £166.39 online.
In a few years time, we'll all have 3D TVs - and you might be glad you got in early with the 12.2-megapixel Sony Cyber-shot WX5 and TX9 3D compact cameras.
The WX5 has a Sony G F2.4 lens and 5x optical zoom, while the TX9 has a 4x optical zoom and a Carl Zeiss lens, with both shooting HD movies and having enogh battery power to shoots 230 shots per charge. But you really want to know about the 3D.
Ultra hip New York-based fashion designer Jason Wu has shifted away from the frocks and towards technology, specifically with the General Electrique Create by Jason Wu digital camera.
He's produced a fairly minimalist effort with a touch of retro, specifically with that added slice of grey leather, which is matched up with a case in much the same style. Yes, this is the digital camera that come properly dressed.
Not quite a Leica, but the Panasonic Lumix FX70 does offer up an F2.2 super bright 24mm ultra wide angle Leica lens for the same image quality of a Leica compact.
According to Panasonic, that F2.2 lens allows the FX70 to shoot at a higher shutter speed, which means clearer, sharper and blur-free images, even in poor light. Other features include a 14.1-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, a deblur mode, intelligent exposure, Intelligent Scene Selector and ISO and the option of shooting HD video in AVCHD Lite.
Also packing a 3-inch touchscreen, the Panasonic FX70 is available in black or silver from August. No price yet, but you can be sure it's cheaper than a Leica alternative.
