Creative launches the Vado - pocket-sized camcorder

Creative has launched the small and lightweight Creative Vado - making it easy to shoot your video and to upload to YouTube or Photobucket.

It's certainly small - small enough to fit into the palm of your hand- and easy to operate, with just the touch of a button required for shooting. And once you've captured your clip, just connect to a computer with the built-in USB connector - the on-board software making it easy to copy your video to YouTube or Photobucket.

Other features include a 2-inch LCD screen, 2GB of storage, a rechargeable battery and a colour choice of silver or pink. It will initially be available in PC World, price still to be confirmed - but unlikely to break the bank.

Olympus launches 10 megapixel E-520 digital SLR camera

Not the most stylish camera you'll see this year, but the Olympus E-520 looks worthy of a look, should you be tempted into the world of digital SLR photography.

Features include a 10 megapixel sensor. 2.7-inch LCD screen with 'live view', image stabiliser, auto focus, face detection (for better people shots), shadow adjustment, 32 scene modes and the TruePic III image processor for sharper shots.

Available from June, it will retail for £479.99 for the body or £529.99 complete with lens.

Ricoh launches waterproof and dustproof G600 digital camera

Don't let those slightly retro looks fool you, the Ricoh G600 is a very modern camera.

This 10 megapixel model is resistant to both water and dust and can even withstand a 1.5m fall. Other features include a 5x optical wide-angle zoom lens, 3200 ISO for better shooting in low light, a 2.7-inch display with light sensor (constantly adjusting for better viewing) and a rechargeable battery.

The G600 will be available in May, priced at around £349.99.

Panasonic introduces Lumix DMC-FX500 digital camera

If the price of a Leica is a it much, but you want something cut from the same cloth, the 10.1 megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500 digital camera could be for you.

A joint project between Panasonic and Leica, it offers a  25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens, a 3-inch touchscreen display, 5x optical zoom, a HD movie mode, able to record at 1,280 x 720 at 30fps (or less if you prefer), a high-speed burst shooting mode, an auto focus and Intelligent Auto mode for beginners, red-eye correction, image stabiliser and face detection for better people shots.

No news of a specific price for the UK as yet, but in the US it will be available in black and silver for $400 (around £200).

Canon launches Naohiro Seki-designed Digital IXUS 90 IS camera

Canon launched a batch of new digital cameras today, all pretty run-of-the-mill affairs, perhaps with the exception of the Digital IXUS 90 IS camera, designed by Naohiro Seki.

The Royal College of Art-trained designer is responsible for the industrial-style finish and unique flat key control panel and thumb wheel. Along with that, the 10 megapixel camera also offers 3x optical zoom, a 3-inch PureColor LCD II screen, Motion Detection Technology and Face Detection Technology for clear people shots, especially in low light, plus Red-Eye Correction, 19 shooting modes and movie shooting at 30 frames per second.

You can pick it up from late March, priced at £259.

Olympus launches limited edition Mju 1020 camera - designed by Matei Apostolescu

Olympus has introduced a limited edition of its Mju 1020 camera, sold with three unique skins by Romanian artist Matei Apostolescu. One of the skins is pictured above - the other are similarly bold.

Just 5,000 of these 10.1 megapixel cameras available, each featuring 7x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, 23 scene modes, Dual Image Stabilisation (to cut down on blurred shots), Face Detection (for better people shots), a panoramic function and movie recording with sound.

These are supposed to be available now, although we haven't found a stockist as yet. Might be worth checking with your local camera specialist.

You can choose from the orange above, pink or a more subdued black. Features of this 8.1 megapixel camera include a 2.6-inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom, anti-shake for reducing the chance of a blurred photo, an easy mode for beginners, Face Detection for better people shots, audio and video recording, 18.6MB of storage, slots for SD / SDHC / MMC cards and 23 Best Shot modes.

So, nothing out of the ordinary, but not that expensive in the USA at $159.99. In the UK? Well, it's unlikely to be as cheap as the £80 equivalent.

Suddenly everyone's digital camera looks a bit weedy, with Sony unveiling its latest compact - the 13.6 megapixel Cyber-Shot W300.

Aside from the pixel count, Sony's latest compact offers a scratch-resistant titanium case, 2.7-inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom, Smile Shutter (a smile prompts the snap), optical image stabiliser, intelligent scene recognition, ISO up to 6400, a burst mode and HD output for viewing your pictures on a HD-ready TV.

Expect to see it instore from May, with a price of around £200.

The Polaroid Instamatic may have bitten the dust, but Polaroid is still offering immediate photography - this time with the Digital Instant Mobile Photo Printer.

Yes, your very own pocket printer. Using Zink Zero Ink printing technology, it prints off borderless images sized at 2 x 3 inches. All you have to do is connect your digital camera or camera phone via USB or Bluetooth. The device has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and the photos have a sticky back, so you can annoy your friends by plastering them all over.

Kodak Easyshare Z1012 camera - this year's must-have gadget?

Kodak isn't one for understatement, claiming the Easyshare Z1012 camera is the 'must have gadget for men this year'.

Is it? I doubt it, but it is a decent camera, offering a 10 megapixel resolution, 12x optical zoom, optical image stabilisation (to compensate for any shaky hand), smart capture technology (which automatically identifies the scene and adjusts the settings), an ISO up to 3200 for better snaps in poor light, face detection for improved people snaps and a multimedia slideshow that combines pictures with music and effects on the camera.

The Z1012 IS is available from May 2008 at £199.99.

Those Japanese, they love their Hello Kitty. And there's an endless array of items available featuring the cutesy cat. The latest of which is the Hello Kitty Red digital camera.

It's a Japanese camera, but now available to order online worldwide. Features include a five megapixel sensor, LCD screen on the rear, 32MB of storage, built-in flash and an SD card slot for adding capacity. In fact, there's even a Hello Kitty SD card available to buy separately.

If you want one, it retails for $174.38, which is around £87.

Canon launches EOS 450D digital SLR camera

Canon450d Today was officially camera day, with just about every camera company in the world introducing its latest range. I could ramble on about the endless Pentax, Samsung, LG and Sony cameras around, but instead I'll just feature the best-looking (the Sony we did earlier) and one for the serious snapper - the Canon EOS 450D digital SLR camera.

Technical time - it has a 12.2 megapixel sensor, EOS Integrated Cleaning System, 3-inch 'live' LCD screen, a new 9-point AF system, DIGIC III image processor, shutter speeds up to 1/4000 sec and the ability to shoot 3.5 frames per second.

All of that will cost you £599.99 for the body, with the body plus 18-55mm lens kit available at £679.99 when it appears in March.

Sony claims style and substance with the 10 megapixel Cyber-Shot T300

Sony has unveiled a new batch of cameras this morning, the highlight of which is the Cyber-Shot T300.

This 10.1 megapixel camera with 5x zoom features the Sony BIONZ image processing engine for improved speed, autofocus, exposure control, white balance and colour adjustment, an ISO of 3200, Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation, D-Range Optimiser (for better exposure and contrast), improved Face Detection for people shots and Smile Shutter, which waits to take the picture until a subject smiles.

There's also a widescreen 3.5-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus touchscreen and the option to hook up to your HD-ready TV, viewing your snaps in near HD quality. The Cyber-shot T300 will all be available in a colour choice of couture silver, black and red throughout Europe from the beginning of March 2008.
