Iconic Motors mixes the old and the new with the GTR Roadster

Gtr

Vintage looks with state-of-the-art technology - that's the newly-launched GTR Roadster.

The work of US-based Iconic Motors, it uses a 6.9-litre V8 engine, which offers a top speed of 200mph-plus - not that you'll get anywhere near that on UK roads. Other features include F1-derived racing suspension, 'jewellery-quality' switchgear and 'synthetic sapphire push-button actuators'. Whatever that means. Let's be honest, speed and looks alone should sell the car.

Just 100 will go in production - when and for how much isn't clear as yet.

Lightning GT - the electric supercar now available to order

Lightning_gt

The Lightning GT has been doing the rounds on websites and in magazines for a while now, but finally, the UK-based electric supercar is available to order.

The GT has a carbon fibre body and an advanced battery system able to supply the equivalent of around 640bhp to four motors. It also has an anti-lock braking system, traction control, electric doors and windows, alloy wheels, tinted windows, leather sports seats, LED taillights, front, rear and side-mounted lights and just about everything else you might expect in a high-end motor, plus a host of extras.

Lightning claims one version would be capable of 0-60mph in under four seconds, and a 'long-life' version would be capable of 250 miles between battery recharges. Not of which comes cheap - deposits of £15,000 are required (to fund more development work) with a final price of around £150,000.

Philippe Starck-designed Voxan super naked Xv motorbike

Starck_bike

Sometimes a picture is enough, which is just as well in this case, because information on the Philippe Starck-designed Voxan super naked Xv motorbike is very much at a premium.

Classed as a "cafe racer". French maker Voxan describes it as "raw power enhanced by the radical purity of the minimalism. The absolute essence of the motorcycle". Still no clearer? Me either. But if your sold on the looks, you'll probably be interested to know that it has a 1200cc engine, 140hp and weighs 180kg.

It should be on sale in the early part of this year - no details on price.

Alfa Romeo unveils the stylish 8C Spider

Alfa_8c

Got money to burn on a new sports car? You'll probably need it to buy an Alfa Romeo 8C Spider.

Set to be shown off at the Geneva Car Show, the 8C Spider has been developed by Alfa's Centro Stile and is limited to just 500 units, which should make it all the more desirable and expensive. According to Alfa Romeo, the interior has "Italian elegance" and a "unique and inimitable style", although as yet, we can't see that up close.

What we do know is that it has a powerful 8 cylinder 4.7 litre engine producing 450 HP and a 6-speed robotic gearbox. And of course, that it has that stunning exterior. Start saving now, the 500 will be available to buy later this year.

Citroen C-Cactus – green motoring and Mini-like looks

Citroen_mini

At first glance you might mistake this as the BMW Mini, but it's actually the Citroen C-Cactus, a concept car that's on its way to your local showroom.

It uses an eco-friendly engine - a diesel/electric hybrid that offers up to 80 miles per gallon, helped along by a reduced weight due to cutting back on the number of components used. That's not to say this is basic motoring - just simplified.

It also ticks the eco box by using a significant number of recycled or recyclable materials - the windscreen, windows and tyres are all recyclable, as are the steel door panels, that are unpainted but which have been treated for corrosion. Environmentally-friendly cork and felt are used for many parts and the patterned floor uses recycled leather taken from cut-offs.

Citroen believes this will sell at the same price as its C4 - which is from around £9,000.

James Bond heads to Scalextric

Bond_scalextric It's a marriage made in heaven - James Bond and Scalextric - and it's coming to a retail store near you in October.

The range (digital set, micro digital set and limited edition) will launch in October, a month before the latest Quantum of Solace movie and featuring cars from the previous Casino Royale film - notably, the Aston Martin DBS, racing round a 532cm track.

The downside is the modern theme. Personally, I think it's a chance missed - a set featuring past classic Bond cars is crying out to be made. Whether it will remains to be seen.

Tata Nano - the world's cheapest car launches at around £1,250

Tata_nano

Fancy a brand new car for £1,250? Well, that's possible if you're in India, where the Tata Nano has been launched.

Tata has just announced the car to the world's press, as well as its specification, which includes a 623cc engine mounted in the back, seating for four to five people, a guarantee that it meets all safety requirements in India and will do 47 miles per gallon. Ok, looks aren't much, but let's be honest, it's no worse than many higher-priced cars.

Is there a downside to the introduction of the super-cheap car? Of course there is - pollution. If the car takes off in the Indian market, that could mean serious congestion on the roads, not to mention all those emissions. But good thing or bad thing, the car is here - and it could lead to a whole glut of budget cars in the next five years.

Insanity 749 - smallest street legal motorbike launches in the UK for under £1,000

Insanity

I'm guessing that for most bikers, bigger is probably better. But if parking and nipping in and out of daily traffic is more of a priority, you might want to check out the Insanity 749 - the smallest street legal motorbike, which has just launched in the UK.

Manufactured in Germany by Boehm, the Insanity 749 is lightweight (65kg), small (just 820mm tall) and has low emissions, a low fuel consumption and a road tax rating of just £15 per year. The only downside is likely to be the top speed of just 30mph.

Still, that's unlikely to be an issue in our gridlocked cities. You can pick one up now for £895 (including delivery).

2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt car - details and photos now online

Mustang_bullitt

Back in May, we mentioned that Ford was producing a limited edition Ford Mustang Bullitt to commemorate 40s years since its appearance in the movie. And as we enter 2008, more details and pictures have emerged.

The 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt has a 4.6-litre V8 engine, a sport-tuned chassis and suspension to boost handling (if you fancy re-creating that car chase) and a 'revised rear-axle ratio' for better acceleration. The paint job will be Dark Highland Green (as the original), the car will be without logos - again as the film car was and most bizarrely of all, the exhaust sound will be just as the original, with the designers having listened to the movie soundtrack to get it just right.

I'm personally not excited by the look of the car, but it could be a shrewd investment, with just 7,700 of these being made. Expect it in 2008 for $31,075 (around £16,000).

Lamborghini Reventon - be one of just 20 owners

Lamborghini

Won the lottery and looking to invest in a super car? The Lamborghini Reventon has arrived just in the nick of time.

And you'll have to be quick, as there's just 20 of these being made, each capable of 650 horsepower and a high speed of 340 km/hr, assisted in no small way by its carbon fibre construction and forward-facing air intakes. Other features include a unique paint job (approximate to a green/grey) and a purpose-built G-force meter that shows dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration during acceleration and braking and transversal acceleration around bends.

And of course, it looks absolutely stunning. Expect to pay just over one million Euros to join the exclusive club.
