Who needs occasional seating when you can inflate some at five minutes notice - as is the case with the Blofield inflatable Chesterfield sofa.

Designed by Jeroen van de Kant, it keeps the same dimensions as the classic two-seater Chesterfield, but can inflate from nothing in just five minutes with the aid of its electric pump. And when you're done with it, that same pump can deflate it.

Use it indoors, outdoors or anywhere - it even flattens down into its own holdall. Available in white now, with green and brown to follow - it's priced at £350.

Scheisse pendant light - shaped like a broken bulb

Real impact lighting from Hans Bleken Rud - the Scheisse pendant light - which is shaped like a broken light bulb.

This large pendant light is as much sculpture as light and certain to dominate a room. Made of steel, it has a matt covering of off-white, with the light bouncing off the segments of shattered bulb.

It has a height of 60cm and a diameter of 58cm, plus a hefty price tag of £587.99. If you want one, you can pre-order now for an August release.

Not everyone has a traditional fireplace these days - or for that matter wants one. But if you still want some warmth and fire in your home, you could take a look at the Blomus Chimo revolving fireplace.

As the name suggests, this fire sits on a plinth, revolving to spin the flames to where you want them. There's also that polished steel exterior, with the fire fuelled by bio-alcohol ethanol (which costs around £5 per litre).

The Chimo itself retails for £1,111.

Not just good to look at - the Amazonas nesting tables also help the environment.

That's because parts of the proceeds from the tables support The Children´s Rainforest, preserving rainforests in Central America. And as well as that warm glow of feeling good about yourself, you get these three distinctive tables made of green lacquered metal - looking not unlike a rain forest viewed from the sky.

Slightly retro but at the same time very modern - that's the Donna Wilson Hue sofa for SCP.

it does have a touch of the mid-century about it (particularly in the legs), but those sharp angles and 'box' arms (ideal for a laptop apparently) make this very much a contemporary design. The frame is made from hardwood, padded with multi-density foam, with support from lacquered beech turned legs.

Apparently doing the round in various Vans stores and concessions, this Vans Sk8-Hi chair is now available to buy for your own home.

In Japan anyway. Made by Coarse Toys, the seat is shaped like the shoe in almost every detail - except for the size obviously (as you can see from the image).

Whether it makes for a comfortable seat is open to debate - but it's certainly an eye-catching one. It retails from LTD in Japan for around £250 - and they ship overseas.

You can create your own wallcoverings from just about anything with the Andrew Martin Panorama Wallpaper collection.

It's simple - just provide Andrew Martin with a digital image, picture or document to scan, together with the wall you are looking to cover and the company will do the rest - right down to customising the colours, should you wish.

The final product is supplied on vinyl wallcovering, with full hanging instructions and in a choice of 'grainy' or 'flatter' finish. The only downside is the price - £150 per square metre. And if you go for an old comic, it looks something like the above.

Kartell's Ferruccio Laviani lamps in gold and silver

Kartell's 60s-inspired Ferruccio Laviani lamps from 2002 have had a makeover - now available in a gold or silver finish for 2008.

Not actual gold or silver obviously, just a new colour choice for the light. Aside from that, everything is as it was - a slim, minimalist pendant light, made of polycarbonate and made in Italy to an original Ferruccio Laviani design.

You can pick one up for £83.99.

Eero Aarnio introduces the Swan Lamp

He might be in his 70s, but Eero Aarnio is still producing some of the most interesting and eye-catching design around - including the newly-launched Swan Lamp.

No prizes for guessing where the name came from - those swan-like curves made from a moulded plastic body that 'scatters light' around the room, the light coming from an energy-saving compact fluorescent bulb.

The bold pattern was designed exclusively for The Conran Shop and is hand-woven in cottages in rural Indian villages. Which makes each one unique.

Designed by Rodolfo Dordoni in 1990, it can probably lay claim to being a modern classic - that polished aluminium tripod base and blown-glass shade/diffuser offering almost timeless style for any living room.

As well as the aluminium base, there's also an option of black chrome as well as a colour choice of shade. All retail for around £162.

A very modern piece of interior design, with just a hint of 1960s influence - the Karim Rashid Orgy sofa and ottoman.

This circular piece of seating has a steel chrome base, with polyurethane foam upholstered in your choice of fabric for comfort. And that stool, which will tuck comfortably in the gap when not in use.

Not cheap, but the £7,000 outlay will turn a few visitors' heads.

On its own the Superis fairly appealing, available in a choice of painted aluminium shades with a cord designed to be barely visible. The Egg pendant lamp

Egg_pendant Chandeliers aren't hat they used to be - with the Egg pendant very much of the new breed.

Designed by Lars Bessfelt in 2006, the Egg pendant consists of heat resistant polypropylene plastic cards that have been sanded to a matte transparent finish. The geometric framework is made from dark grey powder coated steel and the cord is transparent- giving the impression that your Egg is floating.

Available online, it retails for £290.

Minimalism is all well and good, but sometimes you just need that splash of colour. Something that the Confetti shelf system offers by the bucketload.

It uses a multitude of four-colour tiles as a backdrop and best of all, you can swap them around to create your own individual look or piece of personal art. Once you've sorted out your colour scheme, you just slip your frosted acrylic shelves into place. Although to be honest, it seems a shame to stick your bits and pieces in front of something so stunning.

Whether you're looking for an easy chair for reading or an upmarket office chair, the Cortina chair by Gunilla Allard could well fit the bill.

It has visible moulded back in stained white, black and most eye-catching of all, walnut, with a 100 per cent wool upholstered seat and a four-star chrome swivel base. All combining to produce a chair that looks fairly simple, but is so obviously a cut above.

Not the cheapest chair you'll ever buy though - retailing for £603.73.

Maze Five Star Hanger - inspired by throwing stars

Throwing stars are the unlikely inspiration behind the Maze Five Star Hanger.

Indeed, Fredrik Mattson's design looks very much like the throwing stars have been randomyl fired at the back panel. That's obviously not the case though - not least on the grounds of safety, with all the stars featuring rounded edges (to protect your clothing) and because all the stars have been carefully placed to provide maximum hanging space.

Sold in either either white or in a red flock, it retails for £45.

Olivier Droillard Dita coffee table for Habitat

We seem to be on a colour theme today on Switched On Set. Purely by accident, but we might as well run with it and indeed add to it with the Habitat Dita coffee table.

It looks like an oversized set of child's blocks and to be honest, that's what it is. The work of Olivier Droillard, it combines lacquered coloured panels with dark stained oak veneered MDF to produce something a bit more fun than the average functional coffee table.

Sized at 65 x 25 x 106cm, it retails for £249.

Fredrik Mattson multi-coloured PXL table lamp

Pxl_lamp It might look like an accessory for a Lego house, but the PXL table lamp is a working light fitting that's available to order for your home.

It's designed by Fredrik Mattson, who has 'sliced up and transformed' several single-coloured lamps, then re-built the pieces to create a lamp with 'edgy character'. Well, as edgy as a Lego-like lamp can get.

Made of aluminium and steel, it's available online for £683.58.

Ok, it's not going to suit everyone's home, but if you want show off your green credentials, you can do it with these Pendant Jelly Lights.

If you hadn't worked it out, the lights are made from vintage metallic jelly moulds, re-invented as quirky lighting in an almost industrial style, complete with a matching silk-covered flex.

As these are one-offs, you can't choose your mould - that's at the mercy of availability. But they all retail for £45.

Naoto Fukasawa Log Table

Is it a log? Is it a table? Well, actually, the Log Table could pass as both.

It's essentially a side table, shaped as a log and as it's made of laminated oak veneer, could pass as a log at a distance. But it's also storage if you whip the lid off - a great place to hide all the clutter when someone unexpectedly calls in.

The Log Table is actually part of a range by Naoto Fukasawa for Swedese that also includes a Log Bench and Log Stool, with the table retailing for £341.

David Trubridge Coral pendant light

Coral_pendant Wood isn't the first thing you think of when it comes to light fittings, but it works a treat with the Coral pendant, designed by David Trubridge.

Coral by name and Coral in looks, certainly taking inspiration from the sea bed. It's made of hoop pine ply, that comes with an untreated finish and indeed in kit set - you have to create your Coral with plastic clips.

If the plain look doesn't appeal, it's also available in a white, ebony, chocolate walnut or rimu stain finish, all of which retail for $700, which is around £350.

Andrew Martin has taken the humble trestle table out of the workshop and into the office with the A-Frame chrome and glass desk.

It's certainly an impact piece, with the legs/supports made of chrome, while the top is 18mm toughened glass, combining to create a stylish piece of timeless, but at the same time very contemporary design.

That style does come at a price though - retailing for £1,695.

Ikea offers space-saving Lack lamp

Ikea_lack Even if you haven't room on a table, the Lack lamp from Ikea could still fit the bill.

These adjustable and colourful lamps (take your pick from black, green, red and white) have two bases - a traditional one if you have the room and a clamp to fix to the side of a unit. Both matching the main lamp obviously. Not just that, but these are eco-friendly too, using an LED bulb - which means 50 times longer life than an incandescent bulb and less energy consumption.

Made from steel, polycarbonate plastic and painted steel, the Lack lamp retails for £16.99.

Created by Brave Space, the Coat Range uses a piece of maple that's been scraped carefully along the top to create that 'mountain' look. And if course, pointed in four places to hold your garments. If you want to hang more coats, but another - they join up for as long as you want them to.

Made of FSC certified maple and walnut veneer, and finished with a durable water-based varnish, it retails for $175 (around £90).
