Nekura

Tokyoflash has launched the Nekura watch range, with the models up for grabs being the Progression and Scramble.

Like most Tokyoflash watches, the two models here are more about design that practicality, with an LCD display which might take some working out, as well as a multi-color LED light guide - allowing you to choose a display color to suit your mood.

Available in strictly limited quantities, they retail for £63.

Tokyoflash Infection watch - a virus on your wrist

Tokyo_virus

A typically confusing watch from Tokyoflash - but you can't deny that the Infection is eye-catching.

But those lights do make sense if you know what to look for - the red LEDs cover the hours, the ywllow LEDs show the progression of time in five minutes an the green LEDs indicate one minute. All of that is packed into a stainless steel casing, supported by a leather strap and with water resistance to 3 metres.

Yours for just over £70.

Mr Jones decision-making Decider watch

Decider

A stylish watch in itself, the Mr Jones Decider has one other big selling point - it could make those snap decisions for you.

You see, as every second passes, the word 'yes' or 'no' shows up around the face of the watch, offering a solution to those tricky dilemmas. A cool timepiece too - with stainless steel case, leather strap (with white stitching), a single jewel quartz mechanism and a presentation box featuring a specially commissioned illustration by Nadine Faye-James.

This life-changing watch can be yours for $145 (around £75).

Tokyoflash launches Oberon SS digital-style watch

Oberon_ss

Another high-impact but ultimately confusing watch from Tokyoflash - the Oberon SS.

Reminiscent of the earliest digital watches, the watch has a solid brushed stainless steel body with bold blue LEDs telling you the time...if you know what to look for. To put it simply, the outer ring of LEDs indicate the hour, the second ring indicates single minutes and the inner ring indicates minutes in groups of ten. The date also shows in a similar format.

If you can spend the time working that out, you can pick up the watch for £79.

Dress like a secret agent with the Spy Recording Watch

Spy_watch

It might look fairly anonymous, but the Spy Recording Watch hides a number of secrets.

For a start, it's a voice recorder, not to mention an MP3 player and file storage, courtesy of the 1GB memory, with headphones available to listen to your tunes and a USB cable to transfer them from your PC.

Powered by a rechargeable battery, it retails for $74.40, which is around £37.

Daniel Jakobsson Stealth digital watch

Stealth

Rather than buying a vintage digital or worse still, a cheap copy of one, how about going for a modern watch with a vintage twist? Something like the Stealth Watch by Daniel Jakobsson.

The Stealth Watch has a brushed steel case, a choice of leather bands (brown, black or white) and a green or red LED display on a black background. Functions include the basics like date and time and it's water resistant to five metres.

E-Ink Display Watch

E_ink_watch

Not just a stylish timepiece, the E-Ink Display Watch is also a clever piece of technology.

It's all about the display - the E Ink technology used in this watch allows the display to be read accurately and instantly from any angle. And the customisable dial allows you to select different styles, from the precise detail of full numerals to the simplicity of no markings all.

Also included is a chunky stainless steel case, leather or polyurethane strap, Swiss parts and water resistance to 50 metres. It retails for $249.99 (around £130).

Jacob Jensen Titanium watch

Jensen_titanium

It's been around since 1996, but few watches have the stylish simplicity of the Jacob Jensen Titanium watch.

In fact, it's just been reissued, but with very little difference to the original design. That means a white face, Arabic numerals, a Stainless steel case, Swiss quartz movement, mineral crystal and a black rubber strap.

You can pick it up at MOMA, retailing for $200 (£100).

Normal Timepieces offers Extra Normal watches

Normal_watch

Normal by name, but the Extra Normal watches by Normal Timepieces actually offer a twist on the average wristwatch.

Aside from the minimal design (available in both black and white), the watch has a subtle difference to your average watch - there is no hour hand. Instead there's a moving disc, which highlights the relevant hour/number beneath. There's also a Swiss-made Ronda Powertech 513S movement, Swiss-made parts and a water resistance of 30m.

You can pick one up from Colette, priced at 175 Euros.

Casio's colourful G5500C G-Shock watches

Gshock_colour

Casio has a new G-Shock on the market, with the G5500C available in the colours of the Italian flag.

Why those colours? No idea, but they certainly look striking in the picture above. The colours aren't the only selling point though - the watch is also equipped with a highly sensitive solar panel, along with a high capacity rechargeable battery to help keep the battery-intensive functions ticking along. And the display has automatic illumination when it’s angled towards your eyes - clever stuff indeed.

Aside from that, it's packed with all the features you would expect from a modern-day digital, selling for $120 (£60) in the US. I've tried to find a UK seller, but so far without success. Saying that, I expect it to be here soon enough.

Alan Chan Altimeter watch

Altimeter I do like the monochrome simplicity of the Altimeter watch, the work of Hong Kong designer Alan Chan.

The design concept was inspired by the navigating instrument which locates times and directions, with the lines are arranged so that each fine line denotes a minute whilst each bold line denotes an hour. Or you could just look at where the hands are and make a rough guess.

It's for sale at the V&A as part of its China Design Now range. Or indeed online at the V&A shop - either way, it retails for £50.

Alessi space age Calumet watch

Alessi_calumet Designed by Stefano Pirvano, the Alessi Calumet watch offers a modern twist on the space age look.

It might have Alessi's name on the face, but this is actually built by Seiko, made of polyurethane and featuring a dark red dial, orange strap and contrasting light blue numbers.

Priced for the fashion market, it retails at £49.50.

Nooka Zoo-V watch

Nooka_zoo I've always like the look of the Nooka watch range, but rather like the Tokyo Flash timepieces, they're almost impossible to read - or at least, require a great deal of thinking. Thankfully, that's not the case with the Nooka Zoo-V watch.

Yes, this is the Nooka you can use. Available with a choice of straps (black, white and mesh) and different shades of face, the Zoo-V offers up digital numbers, an indication of am or pm and a bar to show time passing.

Practical and stylish, but not all that cheap at £190.

easyGroup launches budget watch range - easyWatch

Easywatch

Not content with dominating the skies, easyGroup now wants control of your wrist with its new range of budges watches launched under the easyWatch banner.

And they're better than you might think. Made in association with Zeon, the watches are very much in the affordable category, with prices starting from just under £6, rising to a maximum of £19.95. Picture above are two extremes, with the space age Cannes watch offering an oval case, sun ray-effect dial, rubber feel strap and water resistance for just £5.95. At the other end of the scale, the Monaco is a black contrast-stitched chronograph that's also water resistant (watch and strap) and features a stop watch. That one sells for £19.95.

Check out the website for the full range, with all available to buy online.

Toy Watch Company - Rolex meets Swatch

Toywatch The Italian Toy Watch Company produces watches based on classic Rolex models including the Submariner and the Daytona, but with a modern finish more in keeping with the Swatch.

Confused? Well, let's take the 7010RDP Daytona as a typical example. This red and black version packs in a Miyota quartz movement and is made from high-strength, ultralight, clear policarbonate with a black graduated steel bezel. And just to keep the Rolex theme going, it also has a strap identical to the Rolex Oyster bracelet - but made from clear ultra-strong and lightweight policarbonate.

Yours for £139.99.

Andy Warhol pop art watches

Warhol_watches

Not made by Andy Warhol, but these Andy Warhol pop art watches are inspired and indeed signed by the man himself, but designed by Kaori Trashima and Maggie Andreani.

The inspiration is the colour - bold pop art colour combinations, with a choice of orange with pink or blue with red. And there's that signature too - if you look closely at the face, you'll see it there in slightly raised text.

Sold with both case and battery, it retails for $95 (around £48).

Steel Cake Steel Square Chrono watch

Steelcake_chrono We featured Steel Cake some time back over at Retro To Go, a New York-based watch design company, recently founded by Matthew Burnett and James Nelson. And a couple of months down the line, there are more interesting timepieces on display, including the Steel Square Chrono watch.

It's all about that square design, a matt stainless steel case that's certain to jump off your wrist. There's also a contrasting black leather strap, Quartz movement and various mini dials for timing.

All of that will cost you $175, which is just under £90.

Once Watch - space age style for under £40

Once

A modern watch with a little nod to the past - the Once Watch.

Reminiscent of the space age era, the watches are cased in a rubber block strap, with an LCD dot matrix display house in the middle. And if you want it to light up, just tough the face of the watch.

Produced by Lexon and designed by Sam Hecht, it retails for £39.95.

Flud Turntable Watch - Technics 1200 deck on your wrist

Flud_watch

Following on from last year's Stamps Disco comes another record deck for your wrist - the Flud Turntable Watch.

This one is based on the classic Technics 1200 deck, complete with detailing like the arm, pitch control and start/stop. Oh yes - and it tells the time too. And as a nice finishing touch, the watch comes in a DJ-style flight case.

Available with black or steel strap, it's available online from $59, which is around £30.

Alessi Kaj watch by Karim Rashid

Kaj

I do like the stylish simplicity of the Alessi Kaj watch.

This futuristic (and unisex) timepiece is available in an endless number of colours - which means you could pick up a few (if you have the money) to match various outfits. Designed by Karim Rashid, it is made of polyurethane, with an acrylic face - but like all fashion watches, it's built for a night in the pub, not for any rough and tumble. Or in other words, it isn't shockproof or waterproof.

Available online, you can pick up the colour of your choice for £65.

EleeNo Orbit Elite watch

Orbit_elite There's a lot of interesting design on the Tokyoflash website, but if you want a watch you can actually use and read, you might be disappointed. Although saying that, this EleeNo Orbit Elite watch is in the minority, offering both the looks and the usability.

No hands though - the time is via lights on both the hour and minute display, controlled by a  Super 2035 movement produced by Citizen Japan. Other features include a stainless steel casing and strap, resin display and a unique butterfly clasp that provide a seamless look when closed - making the buckle invisible.

It's water-resistant and the battery lasts up to four years. And if you want one, it retails for £75.83.

Seiko space age Discus watch

Seiko_discus

Straight out of Japan, but not into the UK as yet is this super cool Seiko space age Discus watch.

It's a modern take on an old idea, using three numbered discs that rotate and work together to offer up the time (hours, minutes and seconds) in a circular display area. The case is available in two designs - one with a stainless body and white face, another with a black metal body and a smoked glass face.

But not yet available outside of Japan. eBay should be your salvation though, but yu'll have to pay around £450.

While the Discus is not officially for sale in North America, I was able to find a couple over on eBay, priced at about $890 each.
