Colombo One and Colombo Two - home phones inspired by Joe Colombo
There's a strong market for retro and vintage home telephones, perhaps because most modern-day designs are so uninspiring. Well, here's two new designs that are very stylish - although both take a significant nod to the past.
The Colombo One and Colombo Two by ChauhanStudio, as the names suggest, are inspired by the work of forward-thinking Italian designer Joe Colombo. That means a space age look for the home phone, but keeping all the functionality you require in the modern day - a full keyboard and digital screen - as well as the classic handset shape.
Colombo One stands upright, reminiscent of the early Ericofon models of the 50s and 60s, while Colombo Two lies face down on its base, which allows for a more angled shape. Each design will be available in three colours: white, black and one accent; 'Boby Trolley Green' for One and ‘Special Orange’ for Two.
But best thing of all is the price. These handsets are very much an affordable design statement, retailing from April/May on the high street for around £40. I'll see you in the queue.
