Factory designer Peter Saville designs new England shirt for Umbro

England1

Art meets sport as iconic designer Peter Saville mixes it with Umbro, producing an England football shirt with a twist.

According to Creative Review, the Saville-designed shirt will be given its debut against Bulgaria on September 3rd, causing more than a bit of controversy we suspect. That just might be intentional.

Makers Umbro claim the design 'takes its inspiration from the more formal classic shirts of England's footballing past. Umbro has developed a new longer, more open neckline for the shirt, building on the square neckline that was designed for the away shirt but allowing additional movement across the chest, keeping its shape especially when a player is running.'

So where does Saville come in? Mainly with the graphic on the shoulders, which is 'evocative of the basting stitches synonymous with bespoke tailoring' as well as representing the diverse nature of modern English society.

We're disappointed it wasn't a barcode instead of a badge, but you can't have everything. If you want one, they'll retail for £49.99 in the coming days.
