'Losing the Plot' at Lifestyle Bazaar

Those inventive folk at Lifestyle Bazaar in east London are doing their bit to promote design and creativity in London throughout the London Design Festival, with the help of a few Louis Ghost chairs designed by Phillippe Starck.

They have asked 8 creative Londoners with backgrounds in fields such as product design, street art, tattoo and illustration to customise and reinterpret the chairs which will then be exhibited in store. After the event the chairs will be sold at auction with proceeds going to the local charity Children with Aids.

Chess Tournament by Jamie Hayon in Trafalgar Square

The Spanish contemporary designer Jamie Hayon has created a gigantic chess set which will take centre stage in Trafalgar Square as part of the London Design Festival.

The installation will be in situ from 19th - 23rd September, with members of both the British Chess Federation and the general public playing matches.  Each piece was made by Italian ceramics company Bosa and hand painted by Hayon to feature references to the architecture of London.

The chess board was made by Italian mosaic specialists Bisazza, and is surrounded by elevated platforms which accomodate the players.

100% Design

100% Design is one of the key architectural design events of the year and is on at Earls Court from 24th to 27th September.

The exhibition showcases everything for the modern interior with sections within the exhibition focussing on different elements such as cutting-edge materials and emerging talent. Exhibitors include British Design stalwarts such as Tom Dixon and Matthew Hilton, plus new companies on the block such as Cornish manufacturer MARK.

Super Contemporary Talks at the Design Museum

Not so long ago we posted about the Super Contemporary Exhibition  at the Design Museum. The programme of talks has just been announced and there is something on the bill to tickle the fancy of any design addict.

The programme includes talks by such design heavy-weights as Ron Arad, Tom Dixon and Paul Smith as well as Neville Brody, Airside and Wayne Hemingway - who to see? Decisions, decisions!

There is also a guided tour on the much-loved Routemaster bus with Joe Kerr, Head of Critical and Historical Studies at the Royal College of Art as the tour guide....all aboard!

Family Day at the Design Museum

If you think your child could be the next Thomas Heatherwick or Orla Kiely, then the Design Museum Family Day on Sunday July 12th could be just for you. This is an advance booking event so you need to be quick off the mark!

Described as 'an exciting day of fun and family-friendly design activities' the day includes drop-in workshops, 'meet the designer' sessions and exhibition trails and tours for children. Plus the wonderful opportunity to meet children's author Lauren Child, the writer of Charlie & Lola and Clarice Bean stories.
